|  Ordnance Survey “On the Map” Design Competition  |

This graphics competition was in connection with Ordnance Survey Limited televised on BBC’s the One Show looking for creative new symbols to be use and presented on the new 2016 UK maps.

As there been vast  technological advancements in the past decade new symbols are having to be produced to suit these new demands in society. Futher to this Ordanance Survey ltd saw it fit to update already universal used symbolsto give a new fresher look. The following areas which were to be design/redesign were:

1) Vineyard
2) Skate Park
3) Toilet
4) Art Gallery
5) Electric Car Charging Point
6) Climbing Centre
7) Solar Farm
8) Ice Rink

The emphasise of all the symbols was that of simplicity and clarity showing each can be determined and understood easily. Furthermore each design had to be suitable for reproduction on digital and printed mapping.

The symbols below are my interpretations of what symbols could be presented on a ordnance survey map.
